Residence - The Ridge, Bungalow 98, Clifton, Cape Town
2013 - 2016

No 98 was first constructed between 1999 and 2002.

(See ‘Harbour House’,)

It formed then, and still does, a small ‘group of Bungalow’s’, positioned on the rocks at the water’s edge. The Atlantic Ocean.

Through time, it’s originally intended use changed and adapted. In 2013, we commenced a remodelling of no 98 – an ‘evolution’ of the Bungalow – revised, and reinvented (?), to meet new demands and needs, however remaining a part of and reinforcing the originally proposed idea of a ‘group of Bungalow’s’.

The idea always relied on the relationships of the Bungalow’s to one another, and the spaces in between them. The reinvention of no 98 sought to further expand on the relationship between the existing Bungalow’s, by creating new openings and accesses, with the aim of reinforcing greater cohesion of the individual bungalow’s, set out about the central garden and courtyard space.

The finer grain detailing of the structure, materials and finishes, necessarily continues the ideas first established in the 1990’s.
