Residence - Meganisi, Greece
2012
The Island House on Meganisi Island, Greece, draws on ideas gathered on the island and the brief for a family holiday house. The ideas are based on an interpretation of the island's natural and built environments.
The site faces and slopes down towards North. The proposed massing of the house consists of ‘separated’ parts, or pavilions, which are set into the landscape at the highest vantage point of the site, and to allow also for South light sun.
The roofs of the pavilions are habitable terraces under cover of vines, with views over the Ionian Sea and distant shores and mountains. An open stair links the roof terraces to the landscape of the House. It is proposed the landscape around the House remains as it is; olive trees, scrub, goat paths and the remnants of old stone terrace walls.
